Today I turned 20 and I am overwhelmed with a feeling of gratefulness for the people God has placed around me. I already knew my friends were amazing but being able to celebrate my birthday with them is something that is very special to me. I love birthdays whether it’s my own or anyone else’s. I think it’s such a happy time and great opportunity for people to do something fun with their loved ones and I got to do just that :) 

In the afternoon I got to spend time with my Mom as we went to lunch and ran some errands. She’s been working with a Hospice group and told me about one of their patients. The father was diagnosed with lung cancer and only has so much longer to live. His wife, the mother, also has breast cancer and is terminally ill. They have four children who are ages 8, 5, 2, and 1. My heart broke as she told me about their situation and I realized God is trying to teach me something today. There are so many people in this world today who are hurting and their hearts are breaking, but God has chosen to give me countless blessings during this season of my life. I couldn’t help but be reminded of how precious the gift of life is. My prayers go out to this family and I hope that God gives them much peace and comfort. At the same time I am humbled that God has blessed me in so many ways and made this day particularly special for me. God, you are so good. 

Heavenly Father, I thank you that you have graciously given me 20 years of life. Thank you for all of the blessings you have poured upon me and I pray that I may be able to live this life for You and You alone.
